Better Be Good For Goodnessakes

Long story short I took a spinach salad to work for lunch this week - twice!

This is the cutest donburi bento bowl box with a gasket snappy lid and little containers for extras like purple sauerkraut and oil and vinegar salad dressing. The photo is actually taken at work, so one can see the salad which includes spinach, tomatoes, radishes, and avocados looks quite nice after transport.

A lot of bento - A lot of heart

This was Tuesday's bento. I need a lot of food when it gets cold. But especially some greens. Yessiree!

Even The Mister came out for a peek at the finish, but I had packed it up by then so I showed him some pictures on the camera playback. He was so cute.

"You included the cookie!" He said. I thought it was a muffin.
"Ahh yeah," I said.
"How cute!" He said.
"Really," I said.

Well the old man is like that sometimes. I told him ONCE in passing that when he shops, as he often does, to "think bento." Now he brings me mini shiitakes ( shown here ), dates - well he thinks they're bento ( shown here ), and tada - Quail Eggs! ( shown here ).

We are quite collaborative when we want to be.

Recommended Reading For Beginners Like Me

This fun little cookbook has a variety of recipes suitable for bento as well as a regular meal such as karaage (Japanese style chicken nuggets), tonkatsu (pork cutlets), tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet), and jyagatama (potato balls). They even provide instruction on how to use chopsticks and how to set the table. And they also give you a recipe to make your own udon noodles. Now that I must try!

Donburi Bento Box

This is my first try at donburi which is rice served with a topping. I think the topping should be saucier and originally I was going to mix the egg with the pork and vegetables. But I had to try a 1 egg tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet) recipe that I read about on Maki's Just Bento website.

This is a seriously good omelet! I almost jumped up and made another one.

I'm still loving these "Master & Commander" glasses that I purchased from Williams-Sonoma. Today I brewed some Wild Raspberry Tea and poured it over ice. So refreshing!
