Happy Cat Bento

Come. Come. Have a nice picnic on this summer day. The Beckoning Cat bento box lures me to a tuna and caper on English muffin sandwich and my very own Secret Ingredient* Pasta Salad.

Pictured here with her sister cat, Hello Kitty thermos, filled to the brim with Ginger Beer. Refreshing!

We sat in the shade of an old pine tree which rained dead pine needles with every breeze.

Parked on a side street of Mission San Miguel's cemetery. Come in. Come in.

And see the old Bell Tower just inside the cemetery.

Meow Bento

Love my Sleeping Mio bento box. It reminds me of my Si and his little friends, the micey.

Top layer: Blackberries, tomatoes (out of picture), Cheddar Cheese, fat green olives (out of picture), and Japanese style KimChee!

Bottom layer: tuna with mayo and wasabi.

Separate Hello Kitty container: Saltines.

Panda Canapes

For the rain, for the train I made a few of these dark rye, cream cheese, and smoked salmon canapes.

Tako Poki Bento

A few days after I made the pretend octopus bento for The Mister, he brought home the real deal. So this was lunch today as I took a break from the computer. I'm reading a recipe book called Asian Bites, a present from The Mister too. He can be nice like that.

Octopus's Garden Bento

The Mister was super upset with me. Aren't the eyes suppose to be on the side? Well, I said, these are baby octopi. He was quite upset that the clams were too big (in relation to other things) and what's that purple stuff?

Well, I said, (after fussing with this Tiffin bento long enough), it is what it is. And then he ate it.

After that, he wasn't so grumpy.

Polar Bear Bento

The Mister works in the great outdoors and will eat everything on his plate, everything on my plate, and everything leftover. In other words, the man is hungry!

So yesterday I made a little appetizer while the dinner was cooking. I've been wanting to use my charm stones as cold packs in my bento. Here, though, the polar bear is more of a decoration (He is chilled though.) And the shrimp are sitting on crushed ice too.
